Don’ts

DON'T: Worry about trying to do everything the first year
DON'T: Try to drastically change the program
DON'T: Try to change people-just work with what is there and look ahead to potential for the future
DON'T: Question openly the current policies (even if they really need to be altered)
DON'T: To revise the traditions
DON'T: Allow students out of classes to work on student council projects except in emergencies and even then find an alternative
DON'T: Believe all you are told about people especially students DON'T: Feel that you can do it all
DON'T: Trust completely without careful consideration
DON'T: Complain
DON'T: Get discouraged

Do

DO: Listen quietly and speak little
DO: Smile and be positive even when it hurts
DO: Try to be a part of the staff council meeting even if it means that you just visit frequently
DO: Thank everyone in writing or other nice ways for every bit of help you receive
DO: Try to volunteer student council for all the odd little jobs that need doing around the building
DO: Help out the support staff with preparation and clean-up chores and thank them frequently
DO: Build the gov/lead class into an A-Team or begin the drive to begin a leadership class
DO: Have an activity that involves the community
DO: Communicate everything to the administration including the superintendent DO: Evaluate using faculty every activity - you do learn a lot
DO: Make staff and students aware of everything through written communication DO: Value yourself and your health
